Wright County and the City of Monticello have partnered to create this 1,200 acres of open space in Wright County, known as the Bertram Chain of Lakes. The County and City partnership was formed with the goal of improving the community’s quality of life by preserving this irreplaceable natural area and creating a regional park for public enjoyment and recreation. The 1,200 acres of the Bertram Chain of Lakes property represents four lakes, acres of undisturbed shoreline, natural habitat, and oak forest.
The partnership was awarded a series of grants from the Parks and Trails Legacy Fund for the acquisition and development of this significant resource.
Two parking areas are available, the south entrance off 90th street, provides users access to 4 miles of hiking trails, 14 miles of single track mountain bike trails, an access to Bertram Lake and a carry-in access to Long Lake which will allow users the opportunity to paddle Long, Mud and First Lakes
The main park entrance is located at 9842 Briarwood Avenue NE, Monticello MN on the North end of Bertram Lake, this entrance provides users access to the swimming beach, hiking trials, picnic facilities, picnic shelter (available for reservation), and a four season climate controlled chalet, and Camp Manitou facilities/day camp.
As per the Wright County Park Ordinance, pets are not allowed to enter the beach area, park buildings, or day use picnic area. Pets are allowed in all other areas of the park including trails, and should be kept on a leash no longer than six feet. Please be a responsible pet owner by cleaning up after your pet.
