1. How can I get a copy of a police or accident report?

To obtain a copy of a police or accident report, stop by in person at the Sheriff's Office located at 3800 Braddock Avenue NE at the Law Enforcement Center in Buffalo, make a request by mail, e-mail at SheriffRecords@co.wright.mn.us or by phone at 763-682-7622 . The report can also be requested by your insurance company but we must have a signed authorization by you. A fee of $.25 per page for each report must be received before the report can be issued.

3. How do I get a permit to purchase a handgun?

The law regarding obtaining a permit to purchase a handgun has not changed. To obtain a permit to purchase a handgun you may apply in person at the Sheriff's Office Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. You must be 21 years of age, a resident of Wright County and have a Minnesota drivers license / MN State ID Card confirming your Wright County address. We cannot accept applications sent by fax. A photocopy of your drivers license / ID is required. The permit will be processed within 7 - 10 working days from the time you make application. The criminal history of each applicant is checked. A record of conviction for certain crimes will be cause for denial of a permit. To begin, please download the Purchase / Transfer Application.

4. How do I pick up recovered stolen property?

To pick up property stolen from you and recovered, you must call 763-682-7680 to make an appointment. Evidence and property release hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday, excluding holidays. No property or evidence will be released without proper authorization and prior appointment.

5. What does a Victim / Witness Coordinator do?

This position provides assistance to victims of incidents in which there have not been or never will be criminal charges. These include serious or fatal accidents, suicides, and crimes against a person prior to finding and charging a suspect.

8. I need my fingerprints for a non-criminal matter. How do I get that done?

We do non-criminal/civilian fingerprints for adoptions, gun permits, teachers, and many other reasons. We currently do these at the Sheriff’s Office at 3800 Braddock Ave NE, Buffalo, We are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. This office is closed on holidays. There is a $15 fee for county residents and out of county residents and businesses. We prefer appointments but will take walk-ins. For appointments and/or more information call 763-684-2384.
