I've been charged with a crime and I need legal advice, but I can't afford to hire an attorney. Will the county appoint one for me?
In criminal cases you can apply for a public defender. If the judge finds that you meet the financial guidelines for their services, they will appoint one for you. If you don't qualify for a Public Defender, but would still like to get legal advice, you can speak to a volunteer attorney through the Wright County Defense Panel the day of your hearing. Check with Court Administration at least an hour prior to your scheduled hearing.
