The Minnesota Department of Transportation has opened the portal to its annual “Name a Snowplow Contest.” The public can make submissions now through noon Friday, Dec. 15.
There are a few rules to keep note of – each person can submit no more than one name, submissions are limited to 30 characters, no profanity, no politically-inspired names and no past winners are eligible.
Eight submissions will be selected – one for each of MnDOT’s districts. The winning names last year were Better Call Salt (Wright County’s district), Blizzo, Clearopathra, Han Snowlo, Blader Tot Hotdish, Scoop! There It Is and Yer a Blizzard, Harry. They join previous winners like Betty Whiteout, The Big Leplowski, Duck Duck Orange Truck and the eye roll-inspiring Plowy McPlowface.
The list will be pared down to finalists by MnDOT staff – last year there were 60 finalists. The public will vote on the finalists in January and the top eight vote-getters will be placed on MnDOT plows. The winning names will be announced in February.
