The U.S. Drought Monitor has released its weekly drought map and, as of this week, one-third of Wright County has been downgraded to the Severe Drought category.
This swath runs northwest to southeast across the county and includes the cities of Albertville, Clearwater, Monticello, Otsego and St. Michael. The Severe Drought designation (D2) is the worst in the state at the moment and is located in the east central portion of the state. Many of the areas in the Severe Drought area haven’t seen significant rains since mid-May.
