A Message from the Wright County License Center:
Reminder for students on spring break this week, the License Center does accept walk-ins on our exam days for the Class D written exam to obtain a driver’s permit. Our exam days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and there are still limited appointments available this week for those who prefer to book an appointment. Walk ins are accepted during the same hours as appointments – 8 a.m. to 11 a.mm and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. only. There is a $10 fee to take the exam at our location and proper documentation is required to test. Students will need their Blue Card from the classroom portion of the driver’s education course along with a primary document, such as a certified birth certificate to test. Additionally, a secondary document, such as a unlaminated Social Security card is required to apply for permit after passing the written exam. All applicants must provide their Social Security Number to take the test, but viewing the card is not required. For those unable to produce a birth certificate and Social Security card, please see the full list of acceptable documents here. Those who successfully pass their test can apply for their permit at our service counter which costs $15.50. A parent or legal guardian must be present to apply for the permit. The License Center is an approved third-party proctor, but per state statute, we are only allowed to offer the Class D written exam. All road tests and other written exams are administered by State Exam offices only. The License Center accepts all forms of payment (cash, check or credit card with an additional service fee).
