Update on Howard Lake Shooting

An Update from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office:

At 12:06 p.m. Monday, March 23, Wright County Communications received a call for a shooting at 300 Dura Drive in the City of Howard Lake. A caller on scene was able to provide Wright County Communications with the license plate and vehicle description of the suspect vehicle as it left the scene. Howard Lake Police Officers arrived, secured the scene and located a victim of an apparent gunshot wound, Adrian Montano Medina (20 years old from Lester Prairie). Montano Medina was pronounced deceased at the scene of the shooting. A Wright County Deputy located the suspect vehicle in the City of Waverly and a traffic stop was initiated south of the city limits. The suspect and lone occupant of the vehicle, Kevin Zelayo Asencio (23 years old from Glencoe) was taken into custody by Deputies without incident. A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle at the traffic stop location. Zalayo Ascencio was transported to and booked into the Wright County Jail. Reports from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and Howard Lake Police Department are being forwarded to the Wright County Attorney’s Office for criminal charges.

Note: County Attorney Brian Lutes is expected to file the charging documents tomorrow (Wednesday, March 22).
