The Minnesota Department of Transportation has provided an update on the finishing work on the I-94 project between Monticello and Hasty.
Traffic has been separated off into eastbound and westbound lanes and the Enfield Rest Area on eastbound I-94 is now open after being closed since April when eastbound traffic was diverted to the westbound lanes.
Barrier removal has begun in the westbound lanes and, as of the morning, about four miles of the barriers in the 10-mile stretch between Hasty and Monticello have been removed.
There will still be lane reductions in both directions for the next two weeks. Eastbound traffic will remain at two lanes as median work is completion and median guard cable is put in place to prevent cars that go off the road from making it through to oncoming traffic in the other lanes. Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane during the overnight hours as striping for three lanes of traffic is completed.
The anticipation is that work will be completed prior to Labor Day weekend with three lanes of traffic open in both directions on the 14-mile stretch between Monticello and Clearwater.
