On Thursday (July 14) the Minnesota Department of Health released figures on the increase in overdose deaths in 2021 – an alarming 22 percent increase from 2020 and more than double the numbers of overdose deaths in 2018. There were 1,286 overdose deaths in 2021 and the numbers from the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota have both increased at alarming levels.
Much of the blame for this increase is being placed on the proliferation of fentanyl, a powerful drug that can continues to spread throughout the country.
