A Message from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office
At approximately 4:11 p.m. Monday, May 9, Wright County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 12 NW and County Road 37 NW in Maple Lake Township. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Minnesota State Patrol and Maple Lake Fire and Rescue. Evidence from the scene as well as interviews with involved persons indicated a 2013 Nissan Altima being driven by a juvenile male (a 16-year-old from Monticello) was traveling north on County Rd. 12. The Nissan Altima stopped at the stop sign and then turned west on County Rd. 37 in front of a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound on County RD. 37 NW. The motorcycle was being driven by William Schwandt, 39, from Kimball. Schwandt’s motorcycle hit the driver side of the Nissan Altima. Schwandt was transported by ambulance to the Buffalo Hospital by Allina Ambulance where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
