On Monday, May 23, 2022 we will start the process of replacing the playground at Otsego County Park. We are excited about the changes that will be coming to the playground with new equipment, safety surfacing, and an expanded play area.
What does this mean for you? First off, to replace a playground we have to remove the existing one. The removal process will start on Monday, May 2. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but as we like to say, “there is a lot of ugly in the beautification process.” If you aren’t aware, the existing playground was installed in in 2002 and is now 20 years old and at the end of its lifespan. There are some great improvements in the new playground design. First, we are adding a pour in place surfacing in certain areas to provide greater access to the swings, main play structure, and 2-5 year old play area. We have expanded the playground area to allow for some new features as well. The biggest addition will be the zip rider that will be installed. This feature is unique only to this playground in our system and we are looking forward to seeing many smiles on this element. We have also added a modern “tire swing” to the new design as a nod to the old tire swing we removed a few years back.
At this time, our goal is to have the new playground installed and ready for use by Memorial Day Weekend (May 27-30). Over the next few weeks there will be a lot of activity going on in the park as we make this update and again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
