The National Weather Service has issued a warning for dangerously cold temperatures this weekend. Air temperatures in Wright County Friday night (New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day) are expected to reach between 15-20 degrees below zero with wind chills in excess of 30 below zero.
On Saturday, the high temperature won’t get above zero and air temperatures are expected to plunge to 20-25 degrees below zero with wind chills again in excess of 30 degrees below zero.
Making problems worse for Wright County is that on Friday a narrow band of snow is expected to cut through Central Minnesota with Wright County in the middle of the projected path of the storm. Up to two inches of snow is expected from this system and road treatment chemicals won’t be effective under the cold conditions.
Travel is not advised over the weekend, but for those who will be on the road are urged to bring along blankets, gloves and additional clothing in the event of an emergency.
