Winter Fun with Wright County Parks & Recreation

Winter is just around the corner, and we are excited to let you know what all we have going on this year in the Parks & Recreation Department. Something new this year, you can register for all our programs online!

First off, the Nature Center at Robert Ney Regional Park will open for winter operations starting January 1, 2022. Hours of operation are Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. This is no different than in years past. Bathrooms in the building will be cleaned before opening and again at approximately 2 pm. No Face coverings are required inside the facility at this time. Rental operations for equipment are back to normal as well. Cost to rent a set of cross-country skis or snowshoes is $5 per person during the operating hours. We do not accept credit cards at the Nature Center so please come with cash or check.

Dog Sledding is scheduled for January 7 & 8, 2022, and this year we will be back at the Nature Center. We are excited that the presentation portion of the program will be back this year. It is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about mushing. Children ages 5 and under are free with a paid adult. When you register for this program, you will need to know the names of everyone that will be participating so you can add them to your account to register them. You will also only need to tell us how many children under 5 will be with you once. You can answer all the question on all the other registrations with a zero. The two-hour sessions are Friday, January 7, 2022, from 4-6 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm and then again on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 8:30-10:30 am, 11 am-1 pm, and 2-4 pm.

One other significant change in the programs for this winter is our Sweetheart Snowshoe/Boot Hike. The format is a little different this year. Instead of coming for come and go event that is self-lead, we are going to take you on a guided hike. At the completion of that hike there will be a catered meal for you to enjoy at the Nature Center. Cost is $15 per person. You will need to register each person coming in the system individually.

Thank you for taking the time to read through all of this. This is just a snapshot of what is going on this winter, and we are looking forward to it. As a department we would like to thank you all for your patience and support through this year so far. We feel fortunate and proud to be able to provide activities and places for you to get out and enjoy the natural world in Wright County. Be sure to follow our Facebook page and our website for the latest updates and information.
