September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Wright County Health & Human Services wants people to know that we can all play a part in working toward preventing suicide.
Suicide in the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and eighth in Minnesota. In 2019, 830 Minnesotans died by suicide and raising awareness that together we can educate and support those in need of help. Suicide is complex and there is no single cause. Certain factors can increase the risk, such as mental illness, substance abuse, painful losses, exposure to violence and social isolation.
The Minnesota Department of Health has a Suicide Prevention page on its website that highlights the warning signs of suicide as well numerous links to learn more about suicide prevention, including 24/7 help lines.
