Earlier this week, Wright County posted a story about the increase in the number of the roundabouts that are going to be on the county’s highway systems – two projects that will increase the number of roundabouts on Wright County highways from five to 11 by next summer. In addition, there are other roundabouts in the county on the state highway system and within cities in the county.
The reaction to the story brought (as expected) plenty of negative feedback on our social media platforms from drivers who have a strong dislike for roundabouts and those who tend to struggle when there is traffic going through them.
The Wright County Highway Department encourages those interested in the subject to check out a couple of YouTube videos that explain the misconceptions about roundabouts.
The first is called “Roundabout Myths” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qvomI8LMb8&feature=youtu.be
The second is called “How to Navigate a Multi-Lane Roundabout” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FSeaY224NQ&feature=youtu.be
Those who construct roundabouts understand that many drivers aren’t thrilled as they come upon a roundabout, but, given their track record of reducing fatality crashes as opposed to stop lights and two-way stops, they aren’t going away and drivers will have to get used to them.
