The Minnesota Department of Human Services (MDHS) has some updates regarding Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) for those who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
The deadline to apply for P-EBT benefits has been extended to Friday, July 31. The application form can be found online here: https://mn.p-ebt.org/en/
MDHS has received approval from the United States Department of Agriculture to expand P-EBT eligibility to certain children in preschool. Eligible Pre-K students must have been enrolled in a district that was receiving free or reduced-price school meals prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Families who already received P-EBT benefits may still apply if their Pre-K children were not included in their original application. The same online application shown above must be used in order to receive P-EBT for Pre-K children.
Minnesota has established a “Summer P-EBT” benefit to provide an additional one-time food benefit of $100 per child. Many SNAP and Minnesota Family Investment Program households with children will automatically receive Summer P-EBT if they were enrolled during the pandemic and families that apply and qualify for P-EBT benefits will also automatically receive Summer P-EBT.
Those who wonder if they qualify for P-EBT or are in need of a translator, call the MDHS P-EBT hotline at (651) 431-4050 or (800) 657-3698 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
