At his daily press briefing today (April 23), Minnesota
Gov. Tim Walz is expected to announce the closing of Minnesota schools for the
remainder of the 2019-20 academic year.
The governor closed public and charter schools more
than a month ago and directed school districts to switch over to electronic distance
learning, which impacted almost 900,000 Minnesota students and their families.
At the time of the executive order to close schools, the
closure set to expire April 30, leading to speculation that the end of the
school year could potentially resume in the classroom setting. However, in
recent days, Walz has hinted that he plans to extend the closures through the
end of the year. That official announcement is expected to come today.
Walz’s press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. and
can viewed live on numerous platforms.
