Tax Forfeiture

  •

Tax forfeited parcels are properties on which real estate taxes were not paid, title to the land and buildings was forfeited and they are now vested in the State of Minnesota. Wright County manages the properties while in trust for the State. During the statutory review period a list of newly forfeited properties is submitted to the various government entities for review and possible acquisition. If the properties are released by the entities, the properties may be available for sale by public auction.

All property is sold 'as is' and may not conform to local building and zoning ordinances. All sales are final and no refunds or exchanges are permitted.

We highly recommend that you thoroughly research any tax forfeited parcels before purchasing. Most liens and mortgages, except Federal and State Tax Liens, are canceled at the time of forfeiture and it is the responsibility of the purchaser to verify this information. For specific legal issues you may want to consult an attorney.

Wright County Finance & Taxpayer Services shall charge and collect, in full at the time of sale for the State of Minnesota, an assurance fee of 3% of the total sale price of the property. Additional fees such as recording fees, deed fees, and deed taxes will be explained at the time of payment.

Parcels not sold at an auction may be offered for sale the day following the auction and purchased by anyone offering to pay the minimum bid price. The price cannot be changed unless a parcel is re-appraised, advertised and again offered at public auction.
