Bertram Chain of Lakes
|
| Location: |
Wright County and the City of Monticello have partnered in an effort to acquire 1,200 acres of open space in Wright County, known as the Bertram Chain of Lakes. The city and county partnership was formed with the goal of improving the community’s quality of life by preserving this irreplaceable natural area and creating a regional park for public enjoyment and recreation. The 1,200 acres of the Bertram Chain of Lakes property represents four lakes, acres of undisturbed shoreline, natural habitat, and oak forest. The property is located directly west of the city limits of Monticello along County Road 39 and 90th Street. Wright County and the City of Monticello closed on a Phase III acquisition at the Bertram Chain of Lakes Regional Park in December of 2012. The current park now features 496 acres. In January of 2012 the partnership was awarded a $833,000 grant from the Parks and Trials Legacy Fund for the continued acquisition of this significant resource. This funding will be used for a Phase IV purchase, that includes the south and west shorelines of Bertram Lake. A parking area has been established off 90th street, along the southern portion of the park that provides users access to 3.7 miles of hiking trails, a carry-in access to Bertram Lake and a carry-in access to Long Lake which will allow users the opportunity to paddle Long, Mud and First Lakes. Please follow the Friends of Bertram Lakes link or the Bertram Chain of Lakes web page below, to find out more about this project.
