The proposed improvements to County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 18, from the intersection of MacIver Avenue NE/Barthel Industrial Drive NE to CSAH 22 (Naber Ave NE) are continuing on schedule. The improvements are being done to address the structural strength of the roadway, the intersection capacity/operations, and long term safety needs of the corridor.
An Open House meeting was held on November 15th, 2017 to get input from affected residents and stakeholders and the public engagement process has continued since that time on an individual basis - with affected landowners providing many good comments regarding the project.
Through the public engagement and input process, many changes have been made to the project design since the Open House meeting, including, but not limited to the following:
1. Minimized right-of-way impacts by reducing the curb to curb width of the roadway from 44 feet wide to 38 feet wide; and modifying the design of the roundabout at the CSAH 18/MacIver/Barthel Industrial Drive intersection to minimize the impacts and reduce new right-of-way needed.
2. Modified the drainage design to address concerns raised by landowners
3. Evaluated/analyzed additional roundabout options for the intersection of Highway 18/MacIver/Barthel Industrial Drive
