The annual Wright Carver Breakfast on the Farm program will be taking place from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Diers Corporation Family Farm near Howard Lake. The event is held every year on a family farm with the goal of sharing hands-on agriculture education with families. There will be a free pancake and sausage breakfast (from 7 a.m. to noon), along with a petting zoo, new and antique farm machinery, displays of new farm technologies and free samples of meat, produce and dairy products from local producers. Guided tours will be offered throughout the morning to educate people as to how a working dairy farm operates and farmers and agricultural experts will be on hand to answer questions about daily farm life.
To alleviate traffic, participants will be shuttled to and from the event. The pick-up/drop-off point is the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School parking lot with free shuttles running from 6:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shuttle ride is approximately five minutes. Only handicap parking is available on site. Strollers are allowed provided they fit on the shuttle.
The Diers Corporation Family Farm has been in operation for 147 years and the family milks 250 crossbred dairy cattle daily and all young livestock are raised on-site.
