The Wright County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office wants to dispel rumors that are making the rounds on social media this morning that claim polling places throughout the state will be closed on Election Day. That is not true. Seven cities in Wright County have in-person absentee voting going on now through Monday (Albertville, Buffalo, Delano, Hanover, Howard Lake, Otsego and St. Michael) that will be allowing residents of those cities to vote today until their typical closing time, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and until 5 p.m. Monday. The City of Monticello will not be doing in-person voting due to COVID-19 exposure in City Hall. The City Hall is open, but Monticello residents who want to vote absentee in-person will have to come to the Wright County Government Center in Buffalo.
At 10 a.m. this morning, Wright County Auditor/Treasurer Bob Hiivala addressed the situation saying, “All in-person absentee voting is taking place with the exception of the Monticello City Hall. The Government Center is staffed and prepared to handle everyone who wants to come to vote here in Buffalo. Any resident of Wright County who wants to vote in-person absentee can come to the Government Center and do so. We are open today, will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will remain open until 5 p.m. Monday for people to vote. All polling locations will be open on Election Day ready to receive and process all votes made by individuals who want to vote in-person next Tuesday. We are staffed, have many levels of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in place and are prepared to have all of our polling places open and as safe as we can make them under the circumstances. There is no truth to any of the rumors saying that any voting location or polling place is or will be closed.”
Disregard any social media posts that say to the contrary. The 2020 election in Wright County will go on as scheduled for those who prefer to cast their ballots locally at their usual polling places.
