The Wright County License Bureau wants to inform those with appointments to get driver’s license renewals inside the Government Center today that the national connected system for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) is down. As a result, the office is unable to process new driver’s license applications.
The system rarely goes down, but, when it does, it is typically the result of severe weather. Hurricane Laura made landfall this morning and is being attributed for the AAMVA system. At this time, the Wright County License Bureau has not been informed when the system will go back online and it can resume its normal processing of driver’s license renewals.
The system is used to verify information such as Social Security numbers for individuals renewing driver’s licenses and is required for the processing of those licenses.
License Bureau staff are contacting those who have appointments today and will continue to do so until the system is back up and running.
